School Age

P.S. 23 Q is comprised of an Elementary School (Grades K-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12). All grades follow the New York City Department of Education’s Uniform Curriculum.

Elementary School


Students in grades K-5 follow the New York City Department of Education’s Uniform Curriculum across all content areas, modified when necessary based upon child’s Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.).   Students participate in a physical education program, experience technology in our state of the art computer lab as well as participate in art classes. Students in grades 3-5 take standardized tests in reading and math. Students in grade 4 take the New York State standardized science test.  Performance Series, a computer based tool for assessment, remediation and/or enrichment is available to all students in our program.

Middle School

Students in grades 6-8 follow the New York City Department of Education’s Uniform Curriculum across all content areas modified when necessary based on child’s I.E.P. Students participate in a physical education program, experience technology in our state of the art computer lab as well as participate in art classes. All students sit for the standardized tests across the content areas. Completing 8th Grade Exit Projects in both science and social studies is required for promotion.

CHAMPS Middle School Sport and Fitness League after school program is offered to students in grades 6-8. The purpose of the CHAMPS Middle School Sport and Fitness League is to offer additional opportunities for students, regardless of athletic ability, to engage in a wide variety of physical activities, and to encourage these students to find activities that they enjoy. The program promotes health-related fitness and sports skills that can be maintained long after school days are over.

High School

Grades 9-12 All students follow the New York City Uniform Curriculum and following the requirements from the New York State Department of Education.

  • P.S. 23 Q offers a 12 month credit based program with Regents/RCT’s.
  • Students are provided with the opportunity for students to graduate with a Regents Diploma or a Local Diploma
  • Extended Day Program – High School credit recovery where Regents/RCTs Prep and Vocational Training and Internship
  • Work study program in partnership with local business
  • Summer Youth Employment
  • Support with transition to secondary/post secondary education and vocational services (VESID)
